Hi, I’m Hailee! The founder of Surface & Roots and host of Survived By Loss. This isn’t just a small business; it’s a reflection of my journey. After experiencing some pretty tremendous loss, I have & will continue to learn how to heal in every way. Some days, that means nourishing my skin with care; other days, it means showing up for the little girl inside me who still needs to feel safe. While working full-time in dispatch, podcasting about surviving the loss, & building a future in beauty & wellness, I’m creating something bigger than skincare. I’m also working with brands I believe in—ones that align with my values & whose stories I connect with—because healing should feel personal, intentional, & real. Surface & Roots is about growth, strength, & the belief that healing happens from the outside in & the inside out. The future holds new products, new connections, & new memories - because healing isn’t just about where we’ve been, but also about where we’re going. If you're on that journey too, you’re not alone. Survived By Loss is more than just a podcast—it’s a deeply personal journey through grief, healing, and rediscovery, and now it’s a clothing collection that mirrors that same strength and vulnerability. This collection is inspired by the tough moments I’ve faced after losing people dear to me, including the suicide of loved ones as well as my personal battle with mental health. It’s a reflection of my journey of rebuilding, finding hope, and starting anew. Each piece in this collection is a reminder that while grief can be overwhelming, there’s always strength to be found in the darkest times. It’s about honoring the past, embracing the future, and wearing your story with pride. From the softest tees to meaningful accessories, every item is created to help you feel connected, empowered, and supported, whether you’re listening to the podcast or simply going through your own journey of healing. Every stitch, every design, is a reminder that you’re not alone and that healing, while difficult, is always possible. Each scrunchie in this collection is made to order with love, carefully handcrafted to add a personal touch to your daily routine. When I was younger, I wish I had spent more time learning from my grandma, Sue, as she sewed. She was so talented, and I didn't fully appreciate the craft until now. Ten years later, I’m learning all over again, rediscovering a piece of myself in the process. For this launch, I selected two limited edition fabrics that hold deep meaning for me—once they’re gone, they’re gone. When I walked into a quilting store for the first time, just 9 days before launching the website, I was hit with a rush of emotion, thinking about how much she would have loved it and would have loved to be a part of it. She was one of the many great losses I’ve experienced in life, and this collection is my way of honoring her memory. It’s me returning to my roots, creating something with my hands that I know she would be so proud of!
